I’m Peter, founder of Walkabout Paris. Our guided and self-guided walking tours are all designed to help you explore the beautiful ‘City of Light’. Here at Walkabout Paris, we believe that to truly immerse yourself in the culture of the city, you must get outside and walk in the footsteps of the people who have lived, prospered, and struggled here. These are the people who have shaped the city and made it what it is today. Don’t get me wrong, museums, galleries, bars, and restaurants are fantastic, but think about all those hidden treasures you miss on your way there. That’s where we come in. Let me tell you our story…

I have always loved to travel, particularly around Europe, exploring vibrant streets and cultural highlights. I spent much of my 20s backpacking through amazing places like Florence, where I reluctantly did my first walking tour in 2019. I was blown away by how the guide authentically brought the history to life within a couple of hours. It felt like we were taking a journey through time, designed to highlight the essence of the city. As soon as I returned to the UK, I set about crafting my own walking tour for my home county of Durham.

Walkabout Durham was launched in 2020 with two carefully crafted tours. It was a rocky start as the world went into lockdown before I had my first customer. However, once restrictions were lifted, the tours gained momentum, and four years later, I have added three more curated experiences to our repertoire. I continued to teach geography and deliver tours on evenings and weekends. However, as business picked up in 2024, my ambitions grew.

My dream was to expand beyond Durham. When I returned to Paris earlier this year, I fell in love with the city all over again. Inspired by its rich heritage and culture, I knew this was where Walkabout was headed. I took to the books and crafted my first walking tours. In October 2024, I did my first trail runs, and the tours will launch fully in January 2025. As well as delivering the tours myself, I will collaborate with expert local guides in Paris.
